An update on Emmy - she took 2nd place in the Open Division of the Farragut State Park Competitive Trail Challenge last Saturday.

My husband started this mare on Joe Wolter's ranch when he lived in Grass Valley, Ca.  Emmy has been used primarily as a trail horse although she has done some ranch roping.  She is a lovely mare who goes forward where you want her to with a good attitude.  When it comes to being out on a trail, she's done it all - led pack mules, been up and over some of the steepest and most vertical passes in the southern Sierra, stays quietly on a high line, crosses any kind of water, bridge, and rock, and has faced off with her share of wildlife, including bears (and llamas).  She isn't afraid of anything though she always remains aware and interested walking down a trail.  She has exquisite ground manners and stands quietly hobbled (note:  this is not the kind of hobbling you would leave a horse in overnight).  Of all the horses I've owned, I consider her the one with the most "try".  She opens gates, backs easily, sidepasses, lopes off quietly - generally goes where you want her to go with softness.  Because my husband is only home on the weekends now we've reluctantly decided to put her up for sale.  She's just too nice a horse to spend the rest of her life standing in the horse pen.

And did I mention that she is the most gorgeous color of red I have ever seen on a horse?  She is a very bright carrot red sorrel - she has the kind of red mane and tail that if it were hair on a woman would stop traffic.  If you like chrome, she's got that too.  If you take a minute to review her pedigree you will see she comes from foundation quarter horse stock - this is a very well bred mare.

Like every individual, she has her quirks as well.  She can be touchy about having her back feet shod, though she picks up her feet to be cleaned quite willingly.  She is fairly sensitive which is why I recommend an advanced beginner or intermediate rider.  I've owned this mare ever since she was a yearling, I love her dearly, and will be happy to answer any other questions you might have - it is very important to me that she goes to someone who knows exactly what they are getting
